His work there included significant research into laparoscopic treatments for gynaecological conditions, particularly endometriosis, ectopic pregnancy management, and endometrial ablation techniques.

In 1999, Mr Pooley joined Kingston Hospital as a consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist, tasked with advancing the practice of minimal access surgery. He was instrumental in introducing innovative procedures, including laparoscopic laser surgery for endometriosis and Novasure Endometrial Ablation, at both Kingston Hospital and New Victoria Hospital.
